Some of the statistics supplied by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are as follows: * An average of 1 alcohol related accident happened every 31 minutes in 2004. * Approximately 248,000 people were injured in alcohol related accidents indicating the death of one person after every 2 minutes. * 21 percent of the children killed in crucial drunk driving accidents were below 14 years. * The rate of drinking related accidents is 3 times higher at night than during the day time. * The percentage of drivers involved in drinking related accidents is higher for males and the drivers are usually between the age group 21 to 24 years. * BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) levels of .8 or higher were found in 27 percent of motorcyclists, 21 percent of light truck drivers and 22 percent of drivers of passenger cars. These are: * Alcohol was involved in 17,461 traffic accidents that happened in 1993. * In fact in 1990, 1.2 million individuals were injured in accidents involving driving under influence of alcohol and that is 22 % of all motor vehicle accident victims. * A total of 394,000 of all police reported accidents of all severities in 1992 were alcohol related. * Alcohol was believed to be the cause in 5 % of all property damage accidents. * Alcohol related accidents and fatalities in 1992 resulted in over 600,000 years of potential life lost before age 65 for all the victims. * All the destruction due to alcohol like injuries, property damage cost around $46 billion.
