DUI Programs And Their ObjectivesTaking note of the increased number of alcohol related accidents (or the drinking under the influence cases), there are many organizations that have come up with the DUI programs to reduce this number. Normally the DUI programs are offered by private and professional non profit organizations. These organizations offer education, treatment, referral services and a psychological evaluation to DUI offenders to satisfy the judicial and driver licensing needs. There are many such organizations that are offering these programs to students ranging from first time offenders to the regular ones. Many countries have specially designed DUI programs which they offer to the offenders after charging them with DUI charges. This may include the first time offender programs. In the first time offender program the individual should complete a state licensed, three month, 30 hour alcohol and drug education and counseling program. This program is designed to enable the participants to consider bringing about change in behavior and attitudes, support positive lifestyle changes, and reduce the use of the alcohol or other drugs.
Another DUI program is the 18 month program. In this program the DUI offender must complete an 18 month multiple offender program. It includes 52 hours of group counseling, 12 hours of alcohol and drug education, 6 hours of community reentry controlling and biweekly individual interviews during the first 12 months of the program. The next program is the 30 month program. Some countries may elect to provide 30 months DUI programs for multiple DUI offender. Los Angeles and Stanislaus have such programs. This programs requires 78 hours of group counseling, 12 hours of alcohol and drug education, 120-300 hours of community service and close personal interviews. In addition to theses there are also various types of DUI programs offered by different private organizations. The aim of such programs is to create an atmosphere to enable a person to address successfully his/her alcohol or other drug related issues and to safeguard the health and safety of the himself/herself as well as the general public on the roads. There are various objectives of such DUI programs . Some of these are: * Providing education to every person by offering factual and correct information about the chemical dependency, effects of the alcohol and drugs on the person, the loved ones and the community at large. * Motivate and encourage every person to know and understand the requirements and accept the responsibility for their decision regarding regular use and abuse of drugs and alcohols. * Providing support and models enabling people to bring about a right lifestyle transformation that helps to prevent troubles related to alcohol and drugs abuse Is another objective of the DUI programs. |
