The period of DUI probation can be from one to two years. During this time the offender has to follow the orders given out by a judge or his/her probation is revoked. When a court orders DUI probation, it may ask the offender to undergo a compulsory drug and alcohol treatment. The offender is also expected not to break the law. The offender has to be on a job and he/she has to report to the prison office, usually, once a month. In short he/she has to follow all the orders given by the court during the probation period. In most of the cases the courts asks the offender to pay a fine. The offender may be asked to pay a fee for court expenditure and the offender has to pay monthly probation fees on time. The offender may also be asked to do community service for a period of 24 to 80 hours. The offender is provided with a DUI probation officer who keeps a check on the offender. If the offender follows all the programs properly then his/her penalties can also be reduced. Due to this fact the DUI probations are treated as a privilege and hence are not given to repeat offenders. The period of a DUI probation period differs according to the state in which the offense happened and the circumstances and facts involved in the offense. Under some sate jurisdictions an offender can be placed under a probation period of three months to one year. However, if the case is far more serious then the period of DUI probation can be of several years. If the offender is convicted under any other crime during the DUI probation period, then there is a chance that the punishments for that particular offense will be enhanced. In some cases if the offender is found violating the DUI probation then he/she can be jailed, a fine can be laid on the offender or the probation period can be further extended.
